Steven Weintraub
Principle
Steven Weintraub founded Art Preservation Services in 1988. Steven holds an MA in Art History and an Advanced Certificate in Conservation from the Institute of Fine Arts, NYU. From 1975 to 1986, he was an objects conservator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Among his many activities at the MMA, he was in charge of the conservation and installation of the American Wing (1977-1979). Between 1986-1988, he was a conservation/environmental researcher at the Getty Conservation Institute. He consults with many museums throughout the country as an environmental preservation specialist. Between 1990-1993, he set up and supervised conservation activities for the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, and remained a consultant to the project through 2000. In 2002, the Port Authority of NY&NJ brought him on as consultant for the preservation of their World Trade Center artifacts. Subsequently, the National September 11 Memorial and Museum brought him on as their conservation consultant. He continues to be actively involved in both projects.
Steven's pioneering work on museum microclimates includes the development of leakage testing equipment and high performance silica gel for showcases. He is actively involved in innovative research on color perception and illumination of museum collections. Steven has lectured broadly in the US and abroad and is teaching "Preventive Conservation" as adjunct professor at the Conservation Center, IFA, NYU.
John D. Childs
Senior Conservator / Historic Preservationist
John Childs graduated from the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation in 1992 with a specialization in furniture conservation, and has worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. He spent 10 years in private practice in the Los Angeles area, where his clients included LACMA, the Huntington Art Gallery, the Japanese-American Museum, and the Longbeach Museum of Art. From 2006 to 2011, John was lead conservator for Historic New England, a collection of 36 historic houses all over New England, where he spearheaded a reassessment of HNE's institutional approach to environmental control in historic houses, and redesigned the environmental monitoring program. John came to Art Preservation Services in March of 2011, and hopes to build on his work in environmental monitoring and control, particularly in the area of historic house conservation and preservation.
Amy K. Passiak
Collections Project Manager
Amy Passiak is a graduate from the New York University Museum Studies Masters program and previously worked at the National September 11 Memorial and Museum. As a Collections Project Manager, she works with clients on contemporary storage and collections practices.
Victoria Pratt
Collections Project Manager
Victoria Pratt is a graduate from the New York University Museum Studies Masters program and has previously had internships at the Grey Art Gallery, The New York Public Library, and the Louisiana State Museum in New Orleans. As a Collections Project Manager, she works with clients on contemporary storage and collections practices.
Marc Weintraub
Electrical Engineer
Marc Weintraub is a MSEE that specializes in wireless/embedded systems with experience in power distribution design, electronic circuit design, firmware and software development. He joined APS in early 2011 to provide engineering expertise for new product development.
Matt Lubchansky
Project Engineer
Matt Lubchansky is a graduate of the Boston University College of Engineering, and has previously worked as a designer of HVAC systems for museums, historic buildings, and high-end residences. As a Project Engineer, he works on the technical aspects of consulting projects, as well as the design and development of new products. He joined APS in September 2011.
